Ingredients
2 lbs beef chuck, cut into chunks
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 large onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups water or beef broth
2 cups diced tomatoes
1 cup tomato sauce
3 carrots, sliced
3 potatoes, diced
2 celery stalks, sliced
2 cups cabbage, chopped
1 tsp Hawaiian sea salt
½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
1. In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Brown beef in batches.
2. Add onions and garlic, sauté until translucent and fragrant.
3. Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce, cook for 3–4 minutes.
4. Pour in water or broth, bring to a boil.
5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
6. Add carrots, potatoes, and celery. Simmer for another 30 minutes.
7. Add cabbage and season with salt and pepper.
8. Continue cooking until vegetables are tender and beef is fork-soft.
9. Serve hot with white rice.
Notes
For deeper flavor, refrigerate overnight and reheat before serving.
Substitute fresh tomatoes with canned if necessary.
Add a dash of soy sauce for a local-style twist.
